To Help Make Health & Hope Possible
“I really enjoyed being a part of the Foundation this summer and having such a first-hand role. Before my experience at the North Oakland Foundation, I knew nothing about non-profit organizations and now my knowledge of fundraising, not to mention the communications experience I gained will certainly shape my future.” - Stephanie Summer Intern, from Syracuse University, New York
The North Oakland Foundation is a growing non-profit organization that supports health programs, education and services in Northern Oakland County, Michigan. Our goal is to bring health and hope to families and individuals across Oakland County and beyond.
The internships are “hands on” non-paid experiences. The ideal candidates will be:
- Intelligent and motivated, as demonstrated by a 3.00 or greater grade point average.
- Interested in health care or non-profit work as shown by a history of community service.
- Able to work on a variety of tasks at the Foundation for at least 12 hours per week with some employment history or experience that proves that the student can handle responsibility.
Interns will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks in addition to routine office duties. Specific duties to provide excellent career experience are assigned based on the intern’s interest and background. For example, the intern may be responsible for:
- Writing press releases,
- Maintaining communications with major and potential donors, as well as funding recipients,
- Developing and implementing processes for one of our major fundraising programs,
- Assisting with special events,
- Engaging in government relations,
- Composing newsletters and other promotional materials,
- Maintaining media clipping of published articles.
While we are a hospital foundation, interested students need not have experience in the medical sciences. Any student interested in non-profit work, fundraising, marketing, event planning, journalism, communications, advertising, or public relations could be a successful candidate. The internship is unpaid; however, we would be happy to work with your advisor to arrange academic credit for the experience.
